We recently went to CoCo Sala for brunch – in two words – chocolate heaven.  It is an upscale, classy version Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory without the creepy Oompa-Loompas.

There is a full chocolate/cocktail bar in the center of the restaurant which would be a great place for happy hour or dessert.  In the back of the restaurant there is an open kitchen where you can see the delicious chocolate masterpieces that they are working on (right now there is a 3 foot chocolate Easter Egg – yum!).

The fun parts of the menu include the original sweet-themed cocktails and the hot chocolate menu. We tried the peachy keen (white peaches, amaretto, champagne and of course a little white chocolate shavings) and the berries & bubbles (champagne and mixed berries).  Both were delicious and light (in preparation of our very filling meal to come).  We also tried the peanut butter hot coco which tasted exactly how you would expect melted peanut butter to taste – very heavy on the peanut butter but still delicious.

Our party opted for the $22, 3 course price-fixed brunch meal.  It started off with a chocolate ganache donut fritter as an amuse bouche, served warm and literally melted in your mouth – a great way to start off brunch.  For the main courses we each got different dishes, the Louisiana Crabcake, Citrus Ricotta Pancakes and Smores French Toast (you couldn’t ask for a better combination of deliciousness).  All of them were excellent.  We also ordered cheesy hash browns (which were good) but they came out about 15 minutes before our main dishes and were a bit on the cold side.  We forgave the kitchen due to a large private party. For dessert we tried the tiramisu, fruit tart and a chocolate fudge & pudding shooter.  They were the perfect way to end a delicious food.  Sound like too much food?  Not a problem – you can order most of the items a la carte as well.

Overall the food was delicious and the price was decent for brunch in DC.  It’s definitely a fun atmosphere and different than the standard brunch options.  If you are a chocolate-lover, this is the place for you.
