So I may have missed the bus on this one but I finally went to Nando’s Peri Peri in Chinatown. I feel like everyone I know is constantly telling me how I have to go and how great this Portuguese chicken place is. Happy to report that the constant harassment was warranted. For the full origins of the peri-peri pepper and more information about how it “aroused passion in the Portuguese men” click here. I think I’ll stick to the part about the chicken.
Last night I enjoyed a delicious ¼ chicken with mashed potatoes and “macho peas.” I choose the hot spice level which was just the right amount of heat and spice without losing overall flavor. The meat was tender with a nice smokey accent. I’m not sure I would really call the peas macho or order them again for that matter but the mashed potatoes were awesome.
All in all, it was a great deal at around $8.00. If I go back again, I think I’ll go for the 1/2 chicken. The chicken is definitely the highlight and there just wasn’t enough to savor. If you haven’t been, you should add it to your list of budget restaurant options. www.nandosperiperi.com
