I like food. Not in the traditional fancy foodie sense. More of the drag my friends to some random restaurant I’ve located or regale people with tales of my niche grocery store adventures, all a benefit of my extremely diverse neighborhood.  While CVC is your man for the best restaurants in town, I pride myself on being the person you come to when you want to locate a rare pepper your cookbook is calling for or find a place you’ve surely never heard of that is surprisingly within 5 miles of your house. I plan to spend this year exploring the wonder that is the NOVA ethnic food underground.

Favorite NOVA food adventure- I had just attempted to visit 3 separate Indian grocers (they had all closed shop) when I finally ended up at A-1 (4815 Lee Hwy #A,  Arlington, VA (703) 841-9626). After roaming around looking confused for a good 15 minutes, the store manager took pity on me and helped me select what he thought were appropriate items from me. He took away several lentil bags I was holding and explained “these are only for a hot body”. While this seriously put into question my self confidence, I smiled politely and put the bag back on the shelf. I later found out he meant my temperature, not my physique. He then proceeded to half write, half gesture, a lentil recipe to me. Turns out this man knows how to make a mean veggie lentil dish.  It is experiences like this that make going off the beaten path special to me. You never know what you’ll learn or what you’ll find.
